Point of Ayre circular


We started the day with a short wander in Peel to the recycling bins, which then led us through the cathedral grounds and around the Labyrinth.

yesterday we had a peep inside, so just passing by this morning...

A final visit to the best beach at low tide 

Then a bus all the way to Ramsey, to go directly to our next accomodation and drop bags off. To walk all the way along the coast would not have been possible, we discovered that yesterday's high tide was the highest of the year, so not a good time to pass certain sections of the route.

Our alternative was to get another bus to Bride, from which we could walk a loop of the northernmost tip of the island- feeling all light without luggage!

A walk down the road then took us to a track into Ayres Nature Reserve. No Ducks, rabbits or hedgehogs were sighted- slow or otherwise!

And North to the tip of the island 

The advisory notices suggest walking next to the sea to avoid disturbing ground nesting birds in the dunes and upper beach.

A lovely cluster of (disguised) birds having a bath and a forage in the pebbles

And our first seal at last! It watched us with interest for a while before moving on

Return to a gravel path and a distant lighthouse guiding us North

Back in Bride, where we started, half an hour before the afternoon's only bus back! 

Home for the next two nights... Sea on one side...

View from the hotel window in Ramsey, which missed the blog yesterday...nice sea view... ...until you look straight ahead and the other part of the hotel is right in the way!  Back to the tram to boost us beyond yesterdays walk... Here they are changing the direction of the aerial. It was a bit of a polava, because this tram has a trailer on the back, so they had to park the tram and detatch the trailer, drive the tram away from the trailer, and reverse back past the trailer on a different track, slide the trailer down to the end of the tracks, then take the tram back to the trailer to reconnect them (are you following?!) they had to change the tram aerial round three times in order to achieve this! Laxey to Douglas

A last look out at the campsite we stayed on, which was very empty except a couple of camper vans... ...and us in the lovely shepherd's hut named Margaret. It was a cosy and warm stay, with every convenience, perfect for an overnight stay. A last long railway journey to make, a diversion inland and up hill, on the Snaefell Mountain Railway. This time it isn't cheating, as it's bringing us back to where we got on!  Views of the Great Laxey Wheel, aka Lady Isabella Hilly terrain that is much like the Cumbrian mountains. At the top station it is very windy! What an easy way to climb a mountain! It's bright, but a bit hazy, so we can't see as far as Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales, as you sometimes can from here. Dalby to Peel

A shorter walk today of around 6 miles, with much better weather! Outside our sleeping spot at Dalby hub Tom went on a solo venture to Niarbyl beach, which we skipped yesterday at the end of the walk in favour of a more direct road route The quaint cottage from above is just visible in this picture Then off we went together towards Peel, leaving the road for a grassy gorsey path There were many instances of not-accounting-for-rucksacks kissing gates, bit of a squeeze!
