Ramsey to Laxey

View from the hotel window in Ramsey, which missed the blog yesterday...nice sea view...

...until you look straight ahead and the other part of the hotel is right in the way!

Back to the tram to boost us beyond yesterdays walk... Here they are changing the direction of the aerial.

It was a bit of a polava, because this tram has a trailer on the back, so they had to park the tram and detatch the trailer, drive the tram away from the trailer, and reverse back past the trailer on a different track, slide the trailer down to the end of the tracks, then take the tram back to the trailer to reconnect them (are you following?!) they had to change the tram aerial round three times in order to achieve this! The poor young trainee was learning the ropes as us passengers watched on with interest.

Back on board, of course we chose the trailer!

No seatbelts, chains or doors, just the trust that you will sit properly and be grown ups! Here we are trundling over a bridge.

Bit windy again , tide out just now.

Looking inland to (probably) Snaefell

Disembarking at Cornaa (pronounced CornAy), a stop beyond where we trammed to yesterday.

The road takes us past a nice waterfall

Then we turn left down the track to Port Cornaa

Sheltered with dappled sunshine, very pleasant

Another waterfall down in the bottom of the glen

The beach at Port Cornaa has a lagoon where the freshwater stream gathers, and meets the sea at high tide

Turning round 180° you can see that the sea and the lagoon are very much unconnected at present

The sea low enough for us to explore around the rocks into a tiny side cove

Then back on the way out of Port Cornaa, on the other side of the stream

We regain the level of the tracks, and walk alongside them for a while

The sea looks big and blue from up here

A passing tram!

Then we hopped back on the tram at Dhoon Glen. How could we not! For the last couple of stops of our day, the tramline runs closer to the sea views than the walking route, which is just along a road.

Happy tram face! This time we had to sit inside the main tram carriage so they could get moving quicker- the conductor can only sort tickets on a moving tram if you are in the main carriage.

But at the next stop we switched to the fun trailer again.

Here is the seafront in Laxey

a wander along the harbour walls

This waterfall is very near to our lodgings, and we passed it after dropping our bags off.

There is lots of industrial heritage in Laxey. Here you can see one of two large waterwheels connected with the mining works. This wheel is the smaller of the two

Back in our cosy shepherd's hut (called Margaret!) to put feet up and enjoy the views!
