Castletown to Port Erin

Deckchairs outside our hotel, the George. We were amazed they were still there after yesterday's winds! Someone had definitely tidied them up since yesterday.

The harbour at Castletown

Castle Rushen, the oldest unruined medieval castle in Europe, apparently.

The harbour walls. No water mammals yet sighted, though we detected some Eider ducks

Still choppy out to sea

A fun swing! Don't get these in Morecambe

Painted wallaby from a trail (rest of the trail not there now)

Shark mural which was visible from hotel room

quite a large bird!

after our morning walk around the town, we decided to cheat a little and got the steam train to Port St Mary, to shave about 6 miles off, and allow us a bit more time to enjoy Castletown in the morning

seperate compartments with their own doors!

first view of Port St Mary beach

Round the headland on a fun walkway

Port St Mary harbour

a gradual uphill in warm sun
looking back the way we've come, with Port St Mary in the mid-ground, and Castletown on the land right on the horizon
a disproportionately tall ladder! (Katie chose the gate option)

The Sugarloaf at the foot of the Chasms, a dramatic cliff area which we stayed cautiously away from the edge of!

An old cafe, now shelter

Views out to the Calf of Man, an island at the southern tip of the main isle- we cut the tip of the walk off in favour of a detour inland....

... To Cregneash, a village which is slowly turning into a museum of Victorian life in the area, with several houses you can go inside, With displays and a museum.

Very changeable weather today, just a minute ago it was raining. Very difficult to choose the right clothes!

A couple of Manx cats live in the village... Notable for their missing tails!

little village church with striking red circular windows just catching the sun!
A walk down a quiet road took us to Port Erin, where the wind and rain blew up briefly, but gave us rainbows

firat glimpse of the sea at Port Erin

a well by the beach, supposedly the reason a settlement grew up in this location

Beach huts! Excuse the upsidedown picture, it can't  be helped!

Don't be deceived, it's sunny but cold! We've taken some shortcuts today, but tomorrow looks set to be a big walk if weather and ankles allow!
